FUND FOR TEACHERS Fellowship Proposal

Hello Everyone~

Many friends and fellow teachers have asked me how Brian, Bea, and I received this wonderful FUND FOR TEACHERS grant to go to Ireland. Because of this, I have added a link to our grant proposal for those of you who are interested in viewing it.

As an additional note, our proposal was submitted in January, but the grant was not awarded until April. Because of this, some of the trip pricing and and other details changed, and we were unable to keep Galway in our travel schedule. FUND FOR TEACHERS assured us that we had flexibility with our travel itinerary as long as all expenses could be documented and the basic outcomes of the proposal remained the same. Additionally, we were given the freedom to explore and expand our original objectives as learning is always organic and ever evolving.

In reflection, I believe we did get so much more out of this rich experience than we ever dreamed possible. Although we did gain many new insights into the lives of past Irish literary greats, we also met many new, up and coming contemporary Irish writers that I believe have much to offer as well. But, for me, the real enrichment came from immersing myself in the landscape and culture of Ireland. It was her rich landmarks and history that intrigued me and her warm and charming people that delighted me. I believe more than anything, this is what I will bring back to my students--a refreshed and invigorated teacher who has seen beyond her borders and wishes to help her students travel there in their minds!
