So we started the day at the James Joyce Centre--we opted out of the open air Bloomsday breakfast because, well, to be frank, it rains a lot here. Plus, it was quite pricey--€26.00 which translates to about $ 32.00. We opted for the free meal at the bed and breakfast. It was very interesitng to see the re-enactors--they were bedecked in their early 20th century finery. We made the observation that Americans in the South re-enact Civil War Battle, here they re-enact what many consider to be the greatest work of literature (I'm still reading the unabridged version!)
After the jaunt at the Joyce centre, we walked over a couple of blocks to the Dublin Writer's Museum. It was very interesting to learn so much of Irish literature. It was a lot to take in.
We have since split in different directions to pursue different interests in this international city. Craig and I went to the Chester Beaty Library to see 18 pages of Da Vinci's codex--it was so very cool to see the actual handwriting of the original Renaissance man. The backwards handwriting was eailly discernable--too cool for words. The History, the History.
Tonight's agenda includes the Writer's Festival Commission0n--Ocean of the Reveries. \it ought to be good.
Lastnights dabate was amazing. It was interesting to see the Irish conscousness of immigration. It is an ongoing and old issue for the US, but for Ireland, it is a new and difficult issue.
